AC Calls on Harry Reid to Immediately Return $700,000 from Menendez Associate Accused of Fraud - American Commitment

Washington, D.C.—American Commitment is calling on Sen. Harry Reid to immediately return $700,000 from Sen. Bob Menendez associate Salomon Melgen to taxpayers. In 2012, Melgen sent $700,000 through his company, Vitreo-Retinal Consultants, to Harry Reid’s Super PAC. Melgen is the Florida doctor accused of a massive Medicare fraud scheme. Bob Menendez, who faces imminent arrest and prosecution, admitted accepting undisclosed private jet flights from Melgen, and was caught pressuring high-ranking officials not to investigate Melgen’s Medicare fraud scheme.
One of those high-ranking officials was Harry Reid. Menendez inviting then-HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius to meet with him and then Senate-Majority Leader Harry Reid in Reid’s Capitol office. Menendez has denied Melgen was even mentioned at this meeting, but Sebelius told federal investigators that she was invited to the meeting specifically to discuss Melgen.
“It is time for Harry Reid to return the $700,000 his Super PAC accepted from Salomon Melgen to taxpayers,” said Phil Kerpen, president of American Commitment. “We must not accept this corruption from the Senate Minority Leader.”
American Commitment previously launched a petition drive urging Sen. Bob Menendez to resign immediately.
“Bob Menendez unethically, likely criminally, compromised his ability to represent the people of New Jersey, said Phil Kerpen, president of American Commitment. “As the chairman, and now the ranking member of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, Menendez also endangered national security through these corrupt arrangements. Bob Menendez is entitled to his day in court, which he will have. But he must resign now so that New Jersey can have a senator and America a ranking member who can represent constituents and the national interest free of an ongoing prosecution. And Harry Reid must immediately return the $700,000 from Melgen to begin separating himself from this corruption.”
American Commitment is urging citizens to sign its petition to Senator Bob Menendez: “Bye Bob! Please resign now!” The petition can be viewed and signed online at: www.ByeBob.com
